Kaiteriteri Recreation Reserve Area Survey
The Kaiteriteri Recreation Reserve (including Kaka Point, Kaiteriteri Beach Camp, Kaiteriteri Beach/Lagoon, Store and Concessions area, and the Mountain Bike Park (shown in red shading on the map in the link below) is planning for the future.
This is to help achieve the vision of being the best coastal recreation destination in New Zealand and to maintain an excellent visitor experience.
To do this we are developing a spatial masterplan to guide development and have appointed WSP (formerly Opus) to lead this process.
We are also reviewing the existing Reserve Management Plan which we operate under as a crown entity reporting to the Department of Conservation.
The project will include landscape, cultural, restoration, resilience and sustainability aspects.
Civil defence and emergency management are important, as is ensuring Kaiteriteri becomes increasingly environmentally and socially sustainable.
Also relevant are managing day to day issues such as:
• Vehicle and boat movement
• Pedestrian walkways and movement
• Green space and event space
• Disability access
• Current amenities – mini-golf, playground, boat wash, bike hub
• Entrance ways
• Interpretation and signage
• The Mountain Bike Park entrance facilities and use
