Kaiteriteri Recreation Reserve at the top of the South Island is famous for its golden sand, mountain bike park, natural beauty and as the gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park. We’re one of New Zealand’s favourite holiday destinations.

As well as our stunning natural environment and world class recreation facilities Kaiteriteri Recreation Reserve also operates a range of high quality services; Waterfront restaurant, Gone Burgers takeaway, Kākā Point Coffee, general store, modern apartments, cabins and campground.

Our vision is to be New Zealand’s coastal recreation destination - and we’re looking for amazing people to join us on our journey. Year round we have 50 core staff, but every summer our team grows to 120 as we welcome our annual influx of seasonal visitors from around New Zealand and the World.

It’s an exciting time to work at the Reserve and we have a large number of well paid short-term contract roles to suit a range of people. We are looking for passionate, committed, caring and respectful individuals to join us in paradise for the 2021/22 season and be part of the Kaiteriteri Recreation Reserve team.

 

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Facilities and Environment Manager, duties will include (but are not limited to) the following:

 

  • Present a well-groomed, courteous and polite demeanor to the public.
  • Communicate and apply all camp and Reserve policies in a fair and professional manner.
  • Develop a professional rapport with campers, visitors, staff and external agencies such as police, fire and ambulance.
  • Assist in ensuring that Kaiteriteri is a safe and enjoyable destination.
  • Maintain a positive engagement with all staff.
  • Undertake other duties within capability as requested by the Facilities and Environment Manager.
  • Understand that the position may change as necessary and other duties may be required moving forward.
  • Ensure the beach is safe .
  • Assisting where possible to advise swimmers the safe swimming areas.
  • Monitor and supervise swimmers at the lagoon outlet on the outgoing tide.
  • Ensure swimmers stay away from the boat lanes.
  • Ensure guests are protecting themselves from the sun.
  • Have a close relationship with the Boat and ramp wardens.
  • Count concessionaires crossing the beach as required.

Health and Safety:

  • Any risk of injury to the public and employees is minimised through compliance with Reserve policy linked to current Health and Safety legislation.
  • All of the Reserve’s Health and Safety policies and procedures are complied with at all times.
  • Ensure hazards are reported and recommendations made to eliminate, isolate or minimise exposure to such hazards.
  • Ensure incidents and near misses are reported and investigated where necessary to eliminate, isolate or minimise exposure to such incidents.
  • Attend Health and Safety training when required.
