This is a key management role responsible for the care, maintenance, compliance and continuous improvement of KRR’s built and natural assets. The role leads the Facilities & Environment function, including maintenance, environment, housekeeping/cleaning, foreshore and ranger operations, with 5 direct reports plus additional seasonal staff during peak periods.
We are looking for someone who brings strong leadership, sound judgement, high attention to detail, and the ability to manage a wide range of priorities in a busy public-facing environment. This role suits someone who enjoys leading people, improving systems, solving practical problems, working with contractors, and ensuring the Reserve is safe, well presented and ready for our visitors.
About the role
As Facilities & Environment Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day and long-term management of KRR’s facilities, grounds, environmental areas, equipment, assets and operational systems.
You will also lead preventative maintenance, renewal works, contractor activity, compliance records, health and safety practice, environmental initiatives, and operational improvements. A strong focus on planning, follow-up, documentation and continuous improvement will be essential.
Key responsibilities include
- Leading, coaching and developing the Facilities & Environment team.
- Planning and delivering maintenance, renewal works, contractor activity and projects in a safe, timely and cost-effective way.
- Maintaining high standards across facilities, grounds, public areas, utilities, equipment and environmental assets.
- Monitoring budgets, workforce planning, supplier spend, operational reporting and capital expenditure.
- Driving sustainability, restoration, waste, recycling, energy and environmental improvement initiatives.
- Building a respectful, accountable and values-led team culture focused on safe work, strong service delivery and continuous improvement.
Health and safety
Health and safety is a key part of this leadership role. The Facilities & Environment Manager will be responsible for ensuring work is planned, communicated and completed safely across a busy operational environment that includes staff, contractors, public areas, vehicles, plant, equipment, facilities and seasonal peak operations.
The successful person will lead by example, making sure safe work practices are understood, followed and regularly reviewed. This includes ensuring team members and contractors are properly inducted, trained, supervised and competent for the work they carry out.
About you
We are looking for someone who can bring:
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Experience managing operational teams, contractors, assets, facilities or similar work areas.
- High attention to detail and strong follow-through.
- A practical, organised and solutions-focused approach.
- Confidence dealing with the public, customers, contractors and external agencies.
- A commitment to health, safety, compliance and good documentation.
- The ability to plan ahead while also responding calmly to daily operational issues.
- A continuous improvement mindset, with the confidence to improve systems, standards and ways of working.
- An understanding of environmental care, sustainability, public spaces or tourism operations would be an advantage.
- Personal experience such as welding, building/carpentry, forklift operation, class 2 driver licence, chainsaw operator certificate and working at height would be an advantage.
