Lift off Abel Tasman

Kia Ora!

It has recently been announced that on Sunday 21st October, Lift Off Abel Tasman – A Festival of the Skies, will be held at Kaiteriteri Beach. The ‘Balloons on the Beach Party’ will be displaying Hot Air Balloons on the beach, live music, food stalls, skydiving, and Arts & crafts. This will be starting late afternoon and going through until approximately midnight. The event is being run by Nelson Tasman Air co-owner Carsten Buschkuehle spearheading the event after organising similar events in his native Germany.  All the profits from the festival will go back into the community, with half being set aside for future local events and the rest going to local charities, including Motueka Community Pool, Tasman Bay Guardians, Abel Tasman Birdsong Trust and Project Janszoon.

Due to the Festival, some road closures and detours will be in place which may affect you coming and going from the Kaiteriteri area. Closures and detours will be in place from approximately 3.00pm until midnight. Wherever possible, timing trips in and out of Kaiteriteri around these hours will cause less disruption to you. The event organisers have restricted the numbers to 6000 and intend to run a bus service for event users. Residents vehicle access is available.
