Predator Control

IMG 4320

The Kaiteriteri Mountain Bike Park’s trapping programme started in 2014 and we make use of the cycle track network and park users to check the traps. The intention is to offset the negative effects of human activity in the bush and enhance the experience of park users. Predator trapping is also used to provide an education opportunity for school groups working on, or using, the tracks. The trap lines enclose about 90 ha of largely native bush, plus an estuary providing protected habitat for Banded Rail. There are currently 150 traps in place. The traps are checked by volunteers who contributed over 300 hours during the year.
